The Resort's North Pole cruises begin sailing on Friday, Nov. 13, two weeks before the 34th Annual Lighting Ceremony Parade on Sherman Avenue. Coeur d'Alene Cruises advertises a 25% "Sneak Peek Week" discount for that stretch, which brings an adult ticket to $23.50, compared with $30.50 once the regular season opens on Thanksgiving Day.
The best way to plan the next six weeks downtown starts there. The days before Nov. 27 are the cheaper and quieter part of the season. On the parade evening itself, Sherman Avenue closes to cars by mid-afternoon.
The Calendar From Halloween to the Switch-On
Here are the downtown dates through the end of November, in order:
- Oct. 31, 4 to 6 p.m. Trick-or-treating along Sherman Avenue, with candy handed out at participating businesses.
- Oct. 31, starting at 8 p.m. The Coeur d'Alene Resort's Monster's Ball at its Convention Center. Tickets are $40 and the party is 21 and over.
- Nov. 7, 1 to 6 p.m. Wine for the Holidays, hosted by the Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association.
- Nov. 13 to 25. Santa's Sneak Peek Week cruises, advertised at 25% off.
- Nov. 26 to Jan. 3. The regular North Pole cruise season at full price.
- Nov. 27, 5 p.m. The Lighting Ceremony Parade, followed by carols, fireworks and the switch-on of more than 1.5 million lights.
- Nov. 28 to Dec. 20. The free Elf on the Shelf scavenger hunt downtown.
The list shows a gap. After Wine for the Holidays on Nov. 7, the Downtown Association's November calendar has nothing else until the parade. The cruise discount falls in those two weeks.
Halloween Week Comes First
The Resort's Halloween programming runs through Halloween Saturday. The Cedars Floating Restaurant has a haunted-shipwreck dining setup through Oct. 31, and Whispers has Halloween-themed dining domes from Oct. 23 to 31. On the water, Haunted Harbors cruises run Oct. 23 to 31. The adults-only Spirits on the Lake cruises run Oct. 23 and 24 and again Oct. 30 and 31, and "Beetlejuice After Dark" pool movie nights are set for Oct. 30 and 31.
The Resort's Halloween page says the Monster's Ball is back "after years in the crypt," so for anyone who remembers the old party, this year marks its return. On the same afternoon, Sherman Avenue trick-or-treating ends at 6 p.m., two hours before the ball opens. That leaves time to take the kids around and still get to the Convention Center.
Nov. 7 Is the Last Downtown Event Before the Quiet Stretch
Wine for the Holidays is set for Saturday, Nov. 7. Check-in is at the Plaza Shops, 210 E. Sherman Ave. A $25 presale ticket includes eight 1-ounce tastings and a commemorative glass. The Downtown Association says a limited number of door tickets may be sold at $30, and every attendee needs to be 21 or older with photo ID.
The event pairs tastings with shopping at downtown boutiques, home-decor shops, bakeries and ice cream shops. The list of participating stops hasn't been posted yet, so check the event page closer to the date. Buying presale saves $5 a person and doesn't depend on door tickets being left.
Sneak Peek Week Is the Same Cruise at a Lower Price
The Coeur d'Alene Resort's holiday light show page says the sneak-peek sailings offer the "same lights, same Santa, same MAGIC," with a first look at what it calls "Santa's NEW North Pole." Coeur d'Alene Cruises lists the same 40-minute trip for Nov. 13 to 25. Departures are at 4:30, 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., and boarding opens 30 minutes earlier inside the Resort Plaza Shops at 115 S. 2nd Street.
Here are the published 2026 prices:
| Ticket | Sneak Peek Week, Nov. 13–25 | Regular season, Nov. 26–Jan. 3 |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | $23.50 | $30.50 |
| Senior, 55+ | $22.75 | $29.50 |
| Youth, 6–12 | $12.00 | $15.00 |
| Children, 5 and under | Free | Free |
For two adults and two children ages 6 to 12, the cruise costs $71 during Sneak Peek Week and $91 once the regular season starts. The cruise line says the sneak-peek prices already include taxes, fees and the 25% savings, and the discount can't be combined with other offers.
The dates make this easy to plan around. Nov. 13 is a Friday and Nov. 25 is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, so the discount covers two full weekends before the holiday. The cruise line describes these sailings as a chance to see "all the twinkling lights, Santa's North Pole, and festive fun" before the holiday rush. The discount isn't new. Visit Coeur d'Alene listed the same 25%-off Sneak Peek Week cruises for November 2025.
Nov. 27 Runs on a Road-Closure Schedule
The regular cruise season opens on Thanksgiving, and the next evening brings the 34th Annual Lighting Ceremony Parade, presented by STCU. This year's theme is "Santa's Workshop." The Downtown Association's parade page sets out the day's deadlines:
- 1 p.m. All parked vehicles must be off Sherman Avenue along the route.
- 3 p.m. Sherman Avenue closes to all traffic from Northwest Boulevard to 8th Street.
- 4 p.m. Barricades go up along the route, and parade entries stage in blocks east of 8th Street.
- 5 p.m. The parade leaves 8th and Sherman and heads west to Government Way and Northwest Boulevard.
- After the parade. Carols and a fireworks countdown on the Resort lawn, then the switch is flipped on more than 1.5 million lights.
All entrances to and exits from Sherman between 1st and 8th streets will be closed. Cars won't be allowed to leave Sherman until pedestrians have cleared, and the Association suggests using 4th and 7th streets to get out of the area after the festivities. Anyone who works or parks along the route that Friday has a 1 p.m. deadline, which comes four hours before the first float moves.
On its holiday light show page, the Resort calls the fireworks "the most magnificent fireworks display in the Pacific Northwest." Families who want a cruise and the parade without paying full price for both can take the cruise during Sneak Peek Week and keep Nov. 27 for Sherman Avenue.
After the Switch, December Fills In
The day after the parade, the free Elf on the Shelf hunt starts. Scout elves are hidden in participating downtown businesses during business hours through Dec. 20. The business list and map are still marked as coming soon. On Dec. 5, STCU's downtown branch at 401 E. Front Ave. is hosting free Santa photos from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a low-sensory session from 9:30 to 10 a.m.
The Resort's calendar fills in too. The "My Favorite Things" Christmas show runs Nov. 27 through Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. It's recommended for ages 6 and up, and infants aren't permitted. Breakfast with Santa is Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hagadone Event Center. Tickets are $75 for ages 13 and up and $45 for ages 12 and under, plus tax and fees. Once December starts, the free events are mostly downtown and the ticketed ones are mostly at the Resort.
Two Newer Places to Eat Before or After a Cruise
Two Sherman Avenue restaurants opened this year. The Coeur d'Alene Press reported that River & Rye opened Aug. 5 at 422 E. Sherman Ave., in the former Crickets space. The owners split the 7,000-square-foot building into two sections and plan a second concept for the back. River & Rye is a few blocks from the Plaza Shops, close enough for dinner before a 6:30 or 7:30 sailing.
For mornings, the Coeur d'Alene Press reported that Coral Cafe opened June 11 at 1524 E. Sherman Ave. It serves breakfast and lunch daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Coral Cafe closes at 2 p.m., an hour after the parade-day parking deadline, so it works for breakfast on Nov. 27 but not dinner.
